Flavinus Day

  • Hexham Abbey, Hexham, Northumberland, NE46 3NB (map)

Flavinus Day celebrates Hexham's famous Roman Cavalryman, whose 2000 year old tombstone stands proudly inside the Abbey. Flavinus was a standard bearer in the elite Roman Cavalry units who policed the areas around Hadrian's Wall during the Roman occupation.

Come to Hexham on August Bank Holiday and enjoy a free fun day out for all the family, with the event featuring a host of Roman activities for all ages. A team of Roman actors will entertain the crowds with demonstrations, talks and children's activities, alongside the Flavinus exhibiton inside the Abbey. There will also be a Roman BBQ, and more general family activities such as face painting, craft and a bouncy castle.
