JUBILEE

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Become part of something historic in Northumberland

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Thursday June 2 will mark a unique moment in our nation’s history. The British public will join Her Majesty The Queen in celebrating her 70th year as our Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth. No other monarch in our long history has achieved such a feat.

The start of the international celebrations will begin with the lighting of the Jubilee Beacons which will mark the start of the official Platinum Jubilee Weekend (Thursday 2 June – Sunday 5 June). The United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories will light over 2,022 beacons, along with one in the capital city of each Commonwealth country. These events will build on the long-held tradition of celebrating Royal events with the lighting of beacons. The beacon chain has become a symbol of unity across communities, borders, and continents.

Hadrian’s Wall and its surrounding communities have been identified as a key location for this event. Northumberland residents are invited to contribute to this historic display by holding an event in their communities that culminate in the lighting of a brazier, bonfire, or gas-fired beacon on the evening of Thursday 2 June.

If you are interested in taking part, please download our beacon event guide here. Please then contact our Beacon Master Jez Light, at jubileebeacons@gmail.com or on 07816 842962. You can view the official Guide to taking part by visiting www.queensjubileebeacons.com.

If you live in a community close to Hadrian’s Wall, there is a website dedicated to what will be the longest chain of beacons in the UK at www.hadrianswalljubileebeacons.co.uk
