Experience Northumberland

From celebratory festivals to the exploration of the galaxies at Allenheads Contemporary Arts, international sculpture exhibitions in rural landscaped gardens to a celebration of women in science, technology, engineering and maths at Cragside, an immersive experience at Lindisfarne Castle, and live music performances, we invite you to Experience Northumberland.

GN2018 Events Programme

Over 56 days of summer, Northumberland County Council have curated a selection of events to Enjoy, Discover, Explore and Reimagine Northumberland.

In a year that sees the Great Exhibition of the North put the spotlight on the North, we celebrate the best that Northumberland has to offer. 

The summer begins on Saturday 7 July with a spectacular opening ceremony in Hexham, Northumberland. 



Join us for the exciting launch of the Great Northumberland 2018 programme on Saturday 7 July in Hexham. This fantastic opener for a summer-long programme of events across Northumberland kickstarts with a vibrant family-friendly programme of music, street theatre and a spectacular showcase event. Between Saturday 7 July and Saturday 1 September, Great Northumberland has made sure there is something for everyone happening across the county. For eight weekends Northumberland  will be alive with exhibitions, installations, music performances and immersive experiences.  View all weekend events here.


We believe that arts and culture events should be free and accessible to everyone, that's why we have made sure some 80% of our events entirely free of charge to enter and enjoy. In Berwick-upon-Tweed on Saturday 1 September, Great Northumberland will close with a parade and a performance of the Great Song of the North, a brand new piece of original music commissioned by Northumberland County Council to celebrate Great Northumberland.  Find out more here.
