The Windtwisters

Presented by Dex Hannon

Blyth’s landscape tells a story of change - from a busy coal port to a centre for renewable energy. Windtwisters - Remember to Evolve by Dex Hannon reflects this transformation. The artwork is part of a project to turn the town into an open-air gallery, with colours inspired by its evolving identity.

Presented by EDable Architecture and Driod Creative

This striking celebration of Blyth’s past, present, and future, draws on the town’s distinctive landmarks and heritage - where industry meets nature, and coal meets renewables. Inspired by community conversations, the artwork captures Blyth’s “Icons” as familiar reference points, offering both a warm welcome and a reminder of the town’s proud identity.

Presented by John Challis

Discover The Gut Line and The High Tide Line, two poems by John Challis celebrating Blyth’s rich history and maritime heritage. Embedded in the paving outside Blyth Library, these works reflect the town’s waterways, past industries, and evolving landscape.

Atmos is a vibrant new art installation in Blyth’s Market Pavilion, created by award-winning design studio NEON. Inspired by Blyth’s history and community, the piece features dynamic shapes, bold colours, and flowing forms to celebrate the town’s energy and spirit.

As Blyth undergoes significant regeneration, what do its people envision for the future? Blyth 2050 – A Portrait of a Town is a video project that gives voice to the community, capturing their aspirations, hopes, and dreams for the town in the year 2050.

Blyth Pride of Place Project

Presented by The Caravan Gallery

The Blyth Pride of Place Project transformed a unit in Keel Row Shopping Centre into a vibrant exhibition of local stories, artwork, and memorabilia. With interactive displays, community contributions, and extraordinary photography from The Caravan Gallery, it captured what makes Blyth special.

Dex Hannon is a British abstract expressionist and multimedia artist whose work spans painting, film, sound and photography. Based in Blyth, his work is rooted in the idea of constant reinvention; each piece is a spark for the next.

Poet John Challis

About

John Challis, is a poet and academic with strong ties to the North East, who has recently moved to York from North Shields.

 

His poetry explores themes of place, history, and working life. 

John has worked with the Northern Poetry Library and was writer-in-residence at Seaton Delaval Hall, a National Trust site just a short distance from Blyth.
